MOTOR SHOW STAND FOR AUDI AG
|
The structure of the new motor show stands for AUDI AG, used for the first time at the IAA 1999 in Frankfurt, Germany, consists of a multiple-curve glass loop which is animated by the projection of coloured light and changing film sequences. The wall is 6m high and varies in length from 100 to 300m, depending on the size of the stand. The 4mm thick glass panes of satinized standard safety glass are held in a narrow-mesh cable net, which is mounted under tension in a grid structure consisting of curved stainless steel tubes that cross over each other.

The semi-transparent envelope encloses the exhibition stand and divides it into an inner and an outer area. The vehicles are displayed inside the loop on a slightly inclined floor. The area outside the envelope is reserved for services, meeting rooms, a VIP lounge and so on. Various degrees of transparency create varying perspectives. The internal surfaces of the loop are used for the projection of films backed by simple sound collages. The prime objective is not the presentation of the product but the conveying of a total sensory experience.
Despite its size and complex structure, the loop can be erected in a relatively short time. This is achieved by clever logistics and detail planning which is closely tailored to the sequence of assembly. The structure consists of few components that are assembled in stages, allowing the stand to be erected in separate phases. The AUDI exhibition stands have received many design and architectural awards, among which is the "Preis des Deutschen Stahlbaues". Architect : Christoph Ingenhoven
